Help! My cat attacks my dog!?

0 votes
I have 2 1/2 year old neutered male cat that was rescued during Hurricane Katrina when we found him stuck in some debris.  He was isolated in our house for about 2 months while he was healing and we were making sure he was healthy.  At the time I had one 20 lb mutt of a dog.  When the two were introduced it was obvious that they were not going to be fast friends but for all intensive purposes they just left each other alone.  Then my dog inpregnated another dog and I took one of the puppies.  The cat hates the puppy.  They puppy is only about 10 lbs and almost fully grown now.  The cat is uaully the aggressor and he has already blinded the puppy in one eye which wasn't fun nor was it inexpensive.  Right now I've just been keeping them seperate but it's a pain in the butt.  Any good ideas on how to reintroduce them without the possibility of blinding my little dog totally.

Well, when introducing my nice-sized cat to my mommom's fat cat, mine hid in my closet, literately! Though, the fat cat is still rude to them, they get along. Try getting your cat a scratching post if he doesn't have one already to reduce possible injury to the puppy. I donnot suggest declawing.

Well honey, I don't think your cat is good with other pets, so your best bet as hard as it may be, give him up for adoption with a firm note, DOES NOT DO WELL WITH OTHER ANIMALS , as much as it sucks, if he's already blinded your dog in 1 eye, it simply is not a good idea to keep this kitty. And you don't want to risk him hurting your pups any more. Or your puppies getting pissed and attacking the cat and hurt him or even kill him. Because their tolerance will eventually run out.

You did a wonderful thing rescuing him and nursing back to health, but it's just not safe to keep him anymore. I'm sure he'll find a good home, but he just is not tolerant of other animals, it's possible that he was a stray and never had any other interaction with animals then on the street.

Also, if you give him up for adoption don't take him to the pound do it yourself, so you can feel better about where he is going and stress he doesn't do well with animals.

Im sorry that that all happend but you could give it a mad voice and it may understand if that dosnt work you may have to hit it softly on the head and if that dosnt work keep him in a different room from the dog and it may not do it any more.

Normally i would say good for the cat but since you want the cat to like the dog i think you might need to get the cat declawed. That would keep the cat from hurting the puppy. Then you can reintroduce them after the cat has healed.
