My cat keeps humping things :/?

Yah well I caught him ages ago humping some cushions and it was disturbing so I make sure he doesn't do it.
I know when he goes to hump something because he stands on the cushions and tries to squish them down with his paws :S
So I stop him before he can do it.
Anyone know why, is this normal for a cat??

my old cat who sadly died a couple of years ago at the grand old age of 19 - who had also been neuted used to do this to one particular cushion in our living room, we tried for years to get him to stop in the end, we just used to walk away and turn a blind eye - i still feel a little uneasy thinking about it - LOL

Are you sure he isn't just 'kneading' like cats do when they are content ? They sort of march and purr loudly. It's normal for them to do that, and good as it shows they are happy.
