1st it could be just a patch of hair finlalg off where there was an injury. Our cats get that all the time. The hair usually leaves with a scab, but the skin under looks normal. If it is mange or ringworm, and just the one spot, no need for a vet trip. Just get some clotrimazole cream (at Walgreens, WalMart, etc) in the antifungal section of first aid items. Rub a bit on the bare spot for a few days. If the hair starts to grow back in, and no other spots show, you are good to go. If you notice other new bare patches. Then you will need to go to your vet to get LymDyp. Be forewarned though, this stuff is NASTY. It stinks and you have to dip the whole cat, with exception of face, which the cats really don't like. We used a bucket in the yard, or locked ourselves in the bathroom with the cat. Not fun. So, if you can get the cream to work, you are 100% -no 300% better off. We have a cat community here on the farm, so the initial outbreak was rather widespread and required the dip. After that individual spots were treated as they showed, and after about a month, they stopped showing and we've been mange/worm free. We had a mange problem here with several cats, and did the dip first, because we didn't catch it soon enough. But, then the vet told us about the cream when spots would keep coming back, and that worked much better. Oh, and if you see ringworm spots on yourself, use the same cream. It passes back and forth spread by contact, so try not to scratch. BTW- we use a well-care vet who doesn't see sick animals in the office, so she answers our questions over the phone with a description. She gives us great tips and advice and saves a lot of loading up cats and taking them in to be seen. Whenever we see a suspcious bare patch on a cat now, we just reach for the tube of anti-fungal cream. Works great.References : Life on the farm is kinda laid back but cats are a constant and abundant commodity even if you spay and neuter.

Since 9 months we have been feeding Stitches, providing her with shelter, cat milk toys and so on.Sometimes she disappears and sleeps at number 2 (I am number 2a) sometimes at number 6. Lately she had been coming to sleep every evening free to come and go as she pleases and I was looking forward to get her insured, vaccinated and microchipped.Since 4 days she has disappeared . been able to see her only on the street and as soon as she comes in she wants to go out again. I have a cat story too. I just had a hand in runseicg 5 cats from a deserted lot. This experience led me to understand that it's not that cat type people are really crazy, it's that cats make em look really really crazy especially as they sit on the hard cold pavements outside suburban supermarkets holding pale blue strings attached to hidden box traps that no normal person can see but that the cats sure can, and so never enter on cue like a cat type person might want them to, resulting in the view that the cat type person is just plain crackers as they sit on the asphalt, begging please baby please, just get in the box . Sometimes cats can even have cat type people worrying about their fecundity as they shout at them to stop what they are doing immediately, there will be none of that here, get off him, wait that is a him you are on top of, what, are you gay ? well that's alright then, far be it from me to stop harmless fun as long as it does not result in a thriving cat colony , even as children are snatched up by their parents in dread of the crazy person, at it again, talking suggestively at a fence and certainly at no living thing they can see.Well these are only two instances over a long and tragic six week period. All the little bastards were exceedingly bright but were eventually caught. They have all adapted to indoor life gloriously and have forgotten their ordeal. While my reputation in the local area has never recovered, you get the idea, how it is that cat type people are not really crazy, cats just make em look totally psychotic and just plain kinky in a loitering kind of way.Fantastic creatures aren't they?

We have 2 semi adult cats and 3 ktitens here at our workplace. We all love them and feed them regularly. The mother cat just had another litter of ktitens (we don't know where they are yet) and one of the older ktitens has a w0und on her neck that does not look good. We heard that there is somewhere we can call where they will take her, fix her up and bring her back. Is that true? We would love to have them stay here as they keep all our staff going and we all love them. We would also like to get the mother fixed so she will stop having babies. As much as we love to see the little ones we don't want to be feeding 50 cats. Thank you

first off im sorry for your loss but try to look at it this way snoeome probably fround your kitties and thought they were strays and decided to give them a home your kitties are probably snuggled up in bed with some little girl who was just thrilled to get a few new friends when i was little i always used to bring home strays and abandoned animals and still do in fact just today i went and pick up two kittes who needed new homes their mom had emailed me because she had lost her job and had no longer had enough money to feed her kitties so i adopted them i know its sad to lose a animal but when the time is right im sure you will find another kitty to love- god bless -amy

bfroee; Stella will not tolerate being a housecat and I would sooner cut off my fingers than have to lock her up so I just put up with it. She's 11 now. Typically my cats live into their late teens. This is not about the fatties I have though; sorry My vet told me free feeding wasn't a problem even though two of my cats are fatties!!! Not obese; but they are chunky. One of mine is very short' he said; so if she wasn't overeating she may tend to be (or look) fatter anyhow. I think he was just trying to be diplomatic. I love the idea of hiding food or only putting it down morning and night. Stella; our outdoor girl is so thin I like to feed her wet food in winter to help fatten her up a bit; I have to feed her separately as you might imagine; no sense spoiling the other 3 with wet food! Where can one find the cat balls you speak of where the food goes inside? That sounds brillant! I'd love to have a giant cat tree but they are rather cost prohibitive. Any ideas on finding instructions to construct ones own?

18 years ago my (then) ketitn attempted to scratch our rented furniture so hubby and I built him a cat tree. He never ever ever touched our furniture again we didn't even have to train him not to. I have replaced the carpet on the cat tree 8 times more often in some areas. Any other cats that have visited or we have owned have not scratched our furniture including our two bengal adolescents. I highly recommend cat trees taller the better so they can stretch and not knock it over. Even a log with bark on it will do. Another interesting surface my bengals have found the old barn wood that is on our stairway walls I wanted to take it down but it is so handy for the kitties to scratch on-I think I will leave it.

I have to tell the srceet to getting cats to open their presents .catnip! When I was the young girl with cats, I bought (or made my parents buy) them presents at Christmas. We would wrap them and put them under the tree (the presents, not the cats). Every night, they would tear the paper on their presents and we would find them scattered all over the living room. Of course, cat's won't perform for an audience, so you have to set their presents out at night or while you leave the house. I also used to dress one of my cats in onesies with the crotch open for her tail to stick out funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. She would freeze and fall over like she was paralyzed. Looking back it may have been slightly cruel, but she was never injured, so I'm okay with it.

Suz and Dan Except for the mnioweg and pestering for attention and/or food, cats often aren't in your face as much as dogs are for what they want. We know for a fact that cat owners under-utilize veterinary care despite cat ownership being up cat veterinary visits are down, so it's quite likely we often aren't meeting the behavioral needs of cats as well.I think part of the problem is the push to keep cats inside only. Not that I'm recommending cats be allowed to roam freely, but there are a number of options to give cats safe and supervised outside time which IMO greatly increases their quality of life. Training them to leashes and harnesses (my favorite is the cat walking jacket), constructing outdoor cat enclosures, installing cat fences that prevent them from climbinng out of a yard, or even taking them for walks in a kitty stroller add a great deal to a cat's life, especially when the indoor environment is not as enriched as it should be.just my two centsSuzanne

My fvoraite dog moment.We're all seriously try to convince a mate he's too drunk to drive. He's finally pointing to where he thought his car keys where when his dog turns up, tail wagging to break the sound barrier, dragging along in her jaws the remains of our mutual mate's last drinks. Six very chewed plastic rings with two cans of VB still left. Hey! Still cold! If yer wondering what happened next well we responsibly didn't let the dog drive. Very boozy Scooby-Doo on the beach moment.My favourite cat moment.So we're fucking away one night and I look up to see one of the house's cats curled up on the pillow next to my head, watching the proceedings like a jaded old theatre critic.I swatted him away and refocused for awhile. Suddenly we could hear a distinct rumbling sound that we weren't generating. We looked up and there were all three of that house's cats now comfortably ensconced around us (Yes, he'd gone and rounded up the others) observing the floor show while purring on in a way best described as sardonic. Am wiothut companion animals neither cat nor dog since this time last year when my darling old pooch went to the big park in the sky aged 17.I thought I'd miss having any pets much more than I have. My daughter lobbies hard on occasion for a dog more or a cat even .but as she is about to start high school next year, I can't see how any animal is going to be anything but my total responsibility and all my animal friends have lived long lives.I'm enjoying the empty nest and not having to rush home to water and walk or organise minding etc. I get a little wistful in the pet food aisle of the supermarket sometimes and I give a tummy scratch and pat to all friendly beasties on my walks, but I've been surprised how pet ownership' has been filed away with last year's tax returns.Interesting after multiple decades of continuous mostly cat & dog ownership all the way back to putting out the Whiskas for Mr. Puss when I was four or five. When people ask if I'll get another one I tell them that I'm now free to travel esp. as my daughter is becoming more and more independent and that one day, I can see myself taking on the responsibility of looking after a pet (and I'm high on the responsibility meter when it comes to caring for animals) but I'm wondering after just one year if I'm turning into a non-pet owner hhm.
